Practices to start your sustainable wardrobe

And they're super-easy so you can start getting involved with longer-lasting clothes and shoes right now.

Who else remembers the time when one of the rules of the female dress code was not to repeat the same trends? Even more for the fear of hearing "out of fashion”, because, the next step, would be to tune in to buy the next ones, an attitude so as not to lose the status of fashionista.

Fortunately, this behavior has changed, as women are more concerned with sustainability, focusing on the longevity of clothing and footwear. Not to mention that, due to the speed with which screen style has moved fashion, the nostalgia factor has re-signified the “out of fashion” talk, since items from the past are more valued and remain longer on the radar of influencers-especially those who adopt conscious consumption.

And conscious consumption puts at the top of the list products (and their maintenance) of higher quality and that, at the same time, help in the preservation of the environment.

Ready to have a more sustainable wardrobe? Modare Ultraconforto has prepared these tips to inspire you! Even to show you that this attitude never dispenses style!

1. Will you use this piece 30 times?

This is an idea by Livia Giuggioli, co-founder of the Eco-Age Agency, which specializes in sustainability. In 2016, she started a campaign called #30Wears and the essence is simple: at the time of purchase, you wonder whether the piece will be worn at least 30 times. Interesting, right? In addition to making us rethink what we want to use, with a focus on durability, we started to choose versatile pieces that can be stylized in various circumstances.

The same reasoning goes for choosing friendly shades such as pink, black and mustard that meet the days when the outfit calls for neutral tones or a dose of vibration. And the best part about deciding the color palette is that shoes are included! Models such as pumps and moccasins are casual fashion wildcards because they have timeless features.

2. Invest in clothes that go through all seasons

The idea is to acquire pieces that work all year round (so it is important that you do an exercise of self-observation about your style and, especially, about the pieces that “speak” who you are!). In addition, the place you live, analyzing which climate prevails, such as in the Northeast that is warmer and indicates that summer clothes will have more space than winter ones. This analysis is also related to the maintenance of so-called base pieces, such as jeans, t-shirts, blouses, shirts, blazers and jackets with classic cuts (and that are always in fashion!), printed dresses, etc..

The same goes for shoes, and sports shoes are the favorites of women's taste, in general! Not least because they have, today, dynamic appearances and functional aspects, which fit right into the casual feminine look. In addition to inspiring increasingly sustainable choices.

The model by Modare Ultraconforto, for example, is composed of PET fibers, re-signifying the plastic of bottles and making it part of the composition of knit (knit that is essential in sustainable fashion). The sporty is also quite flexible with the presence of the elastic that even gives more comfort to women who have sensitive feet.

3.  Swap with friends or donate your clothes

The exchange between friends is a super cool  opportunity to activate ties (and make nice savings!). In giving them you experience the opportunity to practice a good attitude with your community. It is even worth creating a bazaar, publicizing on social networks, calling acquaintances and neighbors, creating sustainable behavior. Another idea is to make the bazaar charitable and allocate part of the income to an institution in your city. In this way, you continue to extend the life of clothes and shoes rather than discard them, as well as making a difference in other people's lives!

4. Make small repairs

It is natural that the time of use entails those little tears in the pieces, but it does not mean that they need to be dispensed with. So how about learning something new? Sewing, in addition to bringing various benefits to concentration and being a means of self-calming after a full day, creates the habit of caring with attention and affection for what exists in the wardrobe. And you can add personal touches through customization, which happens with various items, such as jeans.

5. Care and criterion

But in the sense of focusing on quality! Think that the more quality the pieces have, the more they will meet sustainable behavior. This process brings new habits, such as researching and analyzing the origin of the products you are buying. It is an interesting exercise to know where, how and who does everything you consume. We are living this moment of transformation that will bring benefits to your life and the planet.
