Sustainable ways of thinking about fashion!

The five R's are a rising trend to raise awareness for everybody.

It has been a while since a behavior has been growing in the fashion world: conscious consumption. Globally, people are more aware of the impacts of their own choices and this has influenced when it comes to acquiring some items of the season.

The idea is that, as the industry works to review the role it plays in favor of the environment, consumers start to think and act, to contribute to all this. And that's where the five trendy R's come in: reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, and resell.

But what would those R's be?

Reduce

The benefits of this R can be felt instantly by organizing everything you have. In doing so, there will be an analysis of what needs to be reduced and self-criticism about what we have been accumulating (pieces that are not used). Items that you haven't seen in a long time will be found, and in this way, the way is cleared to determine what stays and what goes away. And when we say what goes away, it doesn't mean throwing it away, does it?

You can create a bazaar among friends and family or make donations to a charity institution. This is a process that increases the durability of clothes and shoes, doing great benefits to nature!

Reuse

Much is being said of resignification and reuse. It's not because you've worn a dress, a blouse, or a shoe once at a party, that you won't be able to invest in them again. With so many clothes in our closets, including the ones we love, the act of reusing them has to be normalized (dress them up again at other times).

Some celebrities have already committed to that. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, for example, reduced her expenses by reusing items. She has repeated different items countless times (such as the famous red scarf).

Recycle

Much is being said about upcycling, which is a process of creating new items through existing materials. The cost is low, consumes little energy, and does not require the use of chemical components. A new length, a new color, adapt to the trend of the new season, everything can be done. The do-it-yourself vibe, that renews the affectivity of the pieces.  Take this tip: fashion today dialogues with nostalgia, so nothing more interesting than to rescue the past with creativity.

Repair

Speaking of creativity, repairing, restoring, and recovering is something that previous generations knew very well how to do. This step is close to the act of recycling, as it is where you explore innovative ways to extend the life of clothes and shoes (which can be anywhere from 1 to 2 years). Turning an old dress into a modern crop top contributes to a conscious attitude, and you will have a unique piece that no one else will have.

Resell

This R is widely commented on in the fashion world because it is an opportunity to free up space. If you have a sustainable closet and need a little extra money because some pieces no longer fit your personality (and be honest with yourself so you won't have any regrets!!), reselling can be a solution.

No wonder there are numerous online platforms where such a task can be done intentionally. Also with a focus on sustainability, attracting the right people who will take care of the pieces the same way you did along the way.

At best, exchange, give, or donate, deal?

Final tip: Missing something in your closet and want to add to it? Think about longevity, which is another word that composes the sustainable context. The same for brands that respect the planet, such as Modare Ultraconforto, which always has a shoe to be part of your routine for a long time.
